Avex Have Won This One
June 20, 2008
Goto Maki is back… with a vengence.
Or Avex as the case may be. Rhythm Zone to be precise and if you didn’t know that’s where Koda Kumi is signed shame on you. So that’s the third gen Musume and the potential third gen Musume on the same label and not just that, the same sub-label.
And just like over at The J-Pex I’m dreaming of a collaboration. Yes, it might not happen, but that’s still just a ‘might’. More like a ‘probably’ actually but allow me my delusions.
The funny thing is that if this news came a month earlier, I would not have cared more than an ‘Oh, another Avex artist’. Meant in a good way, all the J-Pop CDs I own are Avex. I’m following what she does now (yeah, like half of the blogging community) because I enjoyed her How To Use Sexy album so much.

How hot is her website? Goto Maki Official Site
I feel an ‘OMG SO PRETTY’ attack coming on. She looks gorgeous in all the pictures and, quite frankly, the shoot looks so amazingly Avex it’s unbelievable. Check it out and then tell me that that’s not why people are comparing her to Koda Kumi.
I’ll be marathoning How To Use Sexy for the rest of the week. Plus, Maki’s getting her own Category as I plan to blog about her more.
Here’s hoping that her popularity as a member of Morning Musume extends over her Avex career. One obvious thing is that Avex allow a bit more freedom to their artists and are a lot more forgiving about certain things ” . ” Maki’ll flourish… there’s no way she wouldn’t. And even though Rhythm Zone is specifically known for the “R’n'B” type stuff, they’ll let you get away with cutesy, so I get the feeling if she wants to go that way she can.
As a member of MoMusu I first recognised her in the Koi no Dance Site video, which was probably the first MoMusu that I was exsposed to, and from then on I always went “Ah, look, it’s Goto Maki”. So I didn’t really care a whole lot about her, But as I’ve said before How To Use Sexy is a surprisingly awesome album, so now I’m really excited to see what Gocchin plus Avex equals.
Which brings me to the biggest question of the month…
Goto Maki + Rhythm Zone = Awesome?
Only time will tell.
